A chance meeting with Alex led me into motorsport and thence to photography. He had been involved in motorcycle sport, moved to cars with his first Imp, which didn't survive a startline fracas and it was while he was waiting for his second Imp that we became friends. He took as much pleasure in developing the second car as in driving it and only machine work was done outside of his garage. During the 4 years he had it he dropped his lap time at Croft by about 8 seconds and when he went further afield a couple of years later he broke about half a dozen lap records.
On hearing of his death, Bill McGovern, 3 times British saloon car champion said ' Alex was a lovely guy and a very good racing driver.'
